Ikramullah Shahid

Early Life & Family

Ikramullah Shahid was born on June 12, 1949, in Mardan, into a family deeply rooted in scholarly and patriotic traditions. His father, Maulana Midrar Ullah Midrar, was a key figure in the Pakistan Independence Movement — a legacy of service and scholarship that profoundly shaped his life.

Education

He earned a Master's degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Peshawar, followed by an LLB from the University of Karachi, and completed an M.Phil. in Iqbal Studies from Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, with a dissertation on “Iqbal and Afghanistan.” He was enrolled in a Ph.D. program on “Iqbal and Afghan Personalities,” which ill health prevented him from completing.

Literary Career

He published more than 10 books and numerous research articles in journals and magazines, using the written word to document history, promote social awareness, and encourage critical thinking.

Political Career

He entered politics in 1979 as a Councilor and then Chairman of the Municipal Committee Mardan, re-elected in 1983. In the 2002 general elections he was elected MPA on the MMA ticket and served as Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly from November 27, 2002 to March 21, 2006.

Social Activism

An active member of the Aalami Majlis-e-Khatm-e-Naboowat, Mardan, he was passionately committed to defending the belief in the Finality of Prophethood throughout his life through his writings and speeches.

Legacy

From the 1970s until 2024 he remained engaged in political, social, and literary spheres. He passed away on June 26, 2024; his funeral was led by his son Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad and attended by people from all walks of life.
